Sayagata pattern stems from the Japanese symbol Manji which is a buddhist symbol for prosperity, good luck, and good fortune. 

 

Opposite side of the hat is teal Palaka fabric. This fabric is a quintessential print of old Hawaii. Sugar cane laborers wore this fabric as it was very affordable for the time.
